Nestled discretely in the mountains and foothills just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains is where you will find this bustling little college town that boasts a year round population of just under 100,000. It is home to the University of Virginia which brings in around 21,000 students every fall and was founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson. The University is one of Charlottesville’s largest employers in along with Northrop Grumman, NGIC and GE Fauc.
Once outside the city in Albemarle County, you are presented with an endless amount of activities. You can visit Jefferson’s home at Monticello, mountain bike or hike the Appalachian Trail, float down the James River or visit the homesteads of presidents James Madison and James Monroe. Depending in the season, you might be able to catch a steeple chase at Foxfield or Montpelier! These are just a few reasons why Charlottesville is such a great place to live.
